Our Experience

We called Green Dot customer service, but we did not have much luck reaching a customer service representative. The system is friendly enough with a long introductory message before the caller is asked to select from a list of options. We chose to press 5 for customer support, but the automated system would not allow us to pass this point without entering a 16-digit Green Dot card number and zip code or a social security number associated with a Green Dot account. We called back a second time and tried to press 0 to reach a customer service agent, but the system disconnected the call.

  5. This is NOT a user friendly service! I attempted to register card online, which gave me an error message several times. There is no way to resolve this online so I called the customer service number provided. Then I get a series of automated options that still do not provide for an option to resolve the matter. I just want to speak to a PERSON, so I can resolve the issue or have my questions answered, or have access to the money on the CARD!!!!!!

    • I just bought this stupid card last night and it has been nothing but a constant headache. I tried to register it last night online and it kept coming back saying that it was an invalid card number and security pin. what the heck, also tried calling them and then was told that I had tried to many times to try back in 24hrs, so tried again and am getting the same. That’s $60 gone if I don’t get the issue fixed, this place is nothing but a scam, I have filed a complaint and have sent an email regarding my issues, I am not backing down, I want my money back or it to be fixed to where I can register my card and be able to use it for what it was bought for.   8. anybody who states they can only be paid by a green dot card is probably a fraud. Scams attached to this card are increasing every day. Ask my poor 90 year old father who just got taken for $5000.oo. lesson learned as now he is told by the police that the money goes out of country and is not recoverable.   9. I cannot activate my card. It keeps telling me to try again in ten minutes It doesnot work, I purchased this card a week ago and still will not work. I have called the phone numbers and it ask for yor card number and when i put it in it says not an acive card and there is no customer service to talk. The merchant has been getting an earful from me the people at cardholder services says the money goes back to green dot when the load was rejected.   16. i have had this problem since 8/2009. i used to load large amount up to 1K and i when i went to use it again, i had left a balance of 334$ and found out it was gone. i tried calling them and the life o me i coildn’t get anyone to help.i called the monrovia office and send certified mail only to get a recording n no returned certified card back. Caled trking # and it was received by someone in the greendot office, but i never got a response. Now, under unclaimed propertythe same tactic. I send necessary id and driver’s lincense info n i never got anything back. RIPOFFS!!!!!

  19. I recently got the card got money deposited, then the very next day, after payday, some one used my card in stores I don’t even go to and on top of that it was in another state.!!!. I’m wondering if this card really have on top security. I’m disappointed that it all happened all within a couple days.   20. Horrible, Like everyone else says about this Green Dot Card. Tried wiring money to a friends account, and it gets rejected and returned. Don’t know if I should use the first 16 digits of the 17 digit account number or the full 16 digits on the physical card after putting in the ABA 9 digit number?
    No human is reachable to speak. Horrible experience !!!!

    • This Green Dot seems to be a scam!!! I’ve been trying to get a complete refund and my money has been stolen twice and I can’t get anyone on the phone at the customer service numbers. I was sent a check for the incorrect amount and now I don’t know what else to do. Should I contact my local t.v. news station or go on social media with my concerns??? Got my taxes back and normally people make LARGE purchases at this time i.e. new cars, pay off bills, refurbish homes etc. So GREEN DOT, with out notifying me, took it upon themselves to block my card and reissue me another one due to “suspicious activity”. Now I have to wait up to 2 weeks for a replacement card or pay Walmart $15. bucks to expedite me a new card. That’s not cool. They could have called me to ask me if I made the purchases or authorized the transactions but they don’t! As soon as I get my new card I’m taking all of my money out and transferring to a different bank!

  37. The MoneyPak card I purchased did not have the correct amount of numbers to ba able to activate it. After hours of trying I finally got thru by e-mail and was called back by a customer service rep ( from the phillipines). I was told I had to go purchase another MoneyPak card and they would transfer the money from the first card to the second card with no problem. When I purchased the second card for another $5.95 I was also required to load another $20.00 on to that card. I was called back by the rep and was told she was transfering me to activation then with out any info input it said my card was activated ( it wasn’t ) and I was hung up on. Now I have $131.90 tied up with them and no way to contact anyone as now they won’t call back. These cards are a scam and every store that sells them says they do not refund on them so if you buy one you just got screwed.

  40. Green dot blocked my card because I got a credit from a merchant. They said that isn’t the way to load funds on the card. They only want me to buy money pack or go to Walmart and charge fees for that. I have over $500 on a card that I can’t use because they blocked my card. If anyone has helpful ideas I’m all ears. OK I am very angry with the green dot experience I am having and I do not even have a card I am trying to get ahold of someone that can help me help my mother with some crap that is going on do you think maybe I can talk to someone or did everyone up and quit I can not reach anyone by phone it says were sorry all circuits are busy so I get on line to access her account and wouldn’t you know it I get informed that the card number I am staring at in my hand and triple checking on my screen is not the correct one so I go to set up an account thinking maybe she did not do this yet and fill everything out and not a freaking thing happens I have been at this all dam day and can not get ahold of anyone by phone nor access anything to figure out wtf is going on with payments nor how much is on the card nor why her bills are not being paid so I suggest either someone get ahold of me and my mother or there will be legal issues she is an elderly lady and she is trusting this company to handle her financial issues yet after 3 months with this card she has had nothing but debts coming upon her and charged money for services she is not getting I suggest I either get a reply back with phone number that works or a phone call within the next 12 hours or things will get ugly

  47. My 11-year-old purchased this card with his own money. He has been unable to register the card. Walgreen’s refuses to return it. No live human being answers the phone. My son is now out $20 of his own money.

  48. SOOOOOOO frustrating – i got notification that I opened a green dot account, which I did not. The email said to call customer service if I did not open an account. But the phone tree depends on having an account to get anywhere. I can’t call, there is no email. It is incredibly frustrating experience.

  54. Charges was made on my account that i did not make. I reported it to GREENDOT and now I am currently unable to contact them. I am totally locked out of everything! What I have to do now is get a different card because I like a prepaid card. I’ve had PREPAID card for years and it is a green dot Walmart card never had a bit of trouble with it. Green Dot is a totally fu ked up place , Lies and more Lies . for the past 2 months each time I put money on the card I have to call them numerous times to get the International restriction removed so it will go through .   67. Greendot nownowns achieve card. In March my deposit of 6000 washout on my card on the very next day they closed my card and my deposit has vanished. I have a trace and more info but nobody will help me. Any one know what to do?

  68. GreenDot Visa card customer service is a joke. I wrote a very detailed letter (including the card) to their customer service about a problem with a card. I have received several calls from GreenDot as a result; they leave a name but not a number. Not sure why they have a mailing address – I write so that I have a record, not just the phone rep. No fax number anywhere. I even tried to report a lost card to get to a human; no luck. You are asked to enter the card number which may be difficult if it was lost or stolen (?). This is a prime example of a company that wants your money, but not your business. Steve Brocato

  69. if you have a problem almost impossible to get a human. when you do they don’t speak very good English so it’s hard to communicate. If you try again phone goes in circles so you will never get a person. They canceled my card however cannot get an answer where my money is since payment was not make. Can file complaint but they keep extending it for a month or so. If I didn’t have to send money I would not use them at all I think they prey on people knowing you can’t get a hold of them.

  71. I have had a Walmart /green dot card for over a year and it just hit a unbearable low on July 27th. I called to get a new card as the one I had was torn and unreadable even though the stripe still worked. after much garble with the rep in the Philippines who do not speak English they read off a script(I am very hearing impaired with tinnitus and Meniere’s along with heart problems) she said I would receive one in 7 days. I went to make a reservation and was told the card was not accepted. after hours of calling I was told by alleged supervisor Jenn that was the normal process to block cards when new ones are ordered. this is so they can receive interest on my money. when I finally got my point across she transferred my money to a spare card I had from all the nightmares over the past year. she guaranteed me that any credits from merchants, direct deposits etc. would go on this new card number. it did not happen they rejected my direct deposit and it is a nightmare. the reps lie like drinking water and DO NOT GET ADA LAWS. I am sleeping in the Walmart parking lot and when I receive my money I will be on my way to LA where a good friend live to go to small claims for 10,000 and my lawyer is filing a ADA suit against Green Dot. They hide behind a number where you must put in an extension and they change extensions frequently so it is impossible to get through to anyone there and the Philippines apparently are not trained and do not understand lying and felonies. I hope the entire company ends up in a place like hell. they are the most unethical company I have ever heard of.

I think this is the poorest excuse for a bank in the entire world. they turned my world upside down by blocking my card which has left me penniless and no hope as they rejected a direct deposit. they did this simply because I called to ask for a new card with the same number because mine was falling apart. per matthew this card was not meant for people who travel a lot as my mother was taken against her will 4,000 miles from me and I have been traveling back and forth for 7 years. I believe they could make more money with robots as I took me a week to get through to someone in corporate and the Philippines reps are impossible to understand and refuse to honor my ADA hearing disability by getting me someone who speaks English as a first language. this bank is either designed for drug dealers or very low IQ people! I mean who is going to put money in a vault that receives no interest and cannot be used for overdraft protection in the hopes of winning a prize. I think this is illegal and am finding out all the legalties per my state representative. VERY CORRUPT.DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS CARD OR DRECT DEPOSIT!

  78. I think Green Dot is a deceptive business, I have activated a gift card someone gave me, and I am still unable to use it in the store. The only phone # to contact this company on does not have access to talk to any human. What a shame. I hope no one ever gives me this nonsense type of gift card again. I do not like doing business with you and will not give it to anyone as long as I live.

  82. Terrible customer service, unable to speak to an individual. We believe our company is experiencing fraudulent charges on credit cards by repeated purchases of green dot debit cards and we are unable to validate any information as there is no way to call or email a person.

  83. I uploaded $292 on my Green dot Debit Visa card. I am unable to get my money back because they blocked it. I was told over the phone that I have to send a copy of my drivers license. I am not going to do this. Why do they need a copy of my license when they already have my social and my date of birth? Is this to defraud me?

  84. Hi, several of my payment vendors are requesting bank verification for payment acceptance. I am assuming it is as upon signing up for an account, a confirmation email is sent to individual to confirm that it is in fact their own activity. I wonder if online banking has some way to confirm that it is in fact the particular individual who owns the account.
    Just hoping that GreenDot bank has established some way to verify what the vendors are requesting.

  85. i bought a greendot visa card 60.00 dollars at walmart to activate the card online they want a Social Security number i don’t see the reason why for that and i ain’t going to lose sleep giving so much info out to who knows who .its ashame you put your cash into a prepaid card only to fine out to use it you have to give up so much personal information .i,ll just have eat the 60.00 bucks i guess

  88. Trying to register my temp card was the worst expetinace ever .. I couldnt use the app bc i has alot of problems wiith e mail…and calling the 1 866 number was just not simple neigher …… There isnt an option to just speak to a live person. And when i googled to get some kind of guidence to helo me with this issue….. There are 5 step to do when u call the nunber that arent available through the automatic system used before … Its crazy madness

  89. Unable to contact a live person through automated system and they dont call you back if you are even told they will. Payed premium for fedex rush delivery card replacement 15$ and its over 24 hours late and no support available. Monthly fees went up to 7.95 also.

  90. I bought a green dot card at Vons for $100 I got home that night I got up next morning I went directly to the card he told me the card was already registered the money was gone somehow somebody stole my hundred dollars off of it
