Green Dot is an alternative to traditional credit and debit cards. The cards are reloadable at Green Dot retailers, online and via bank transfer. There are various Green Dot cards to choose from, including prepaid Mastercard, online shopping card and prepaid student card. There are fees associated with the Green Dot card. Fees may include:

There are two fee schedules available for cards purchased at Financial Service Centers. One fee schedule charges customers a $0.75 fee every time the card is used and the other charges a monthly maintenance fee for unlimited purchases.

We called Green Dot customer service, but we did not have much luck reaching a customer service representative. The system is friendly enough with a long introductory message before the caller is asked to select from a list of options. We chose to press 5 for customer support, but the automated system would not allow us to pass this point without entering a 16-digit Green Dot card number and zip code or a social security number associated with a Green Dot account. We called back a second time and tried to press 0 to reach a customer service agent, but the system disconnected the call.
