Contacting CMS Customer Service Center

CMS is also known as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The main site offers links to various complimentary sites on the Internet, including the Medicaid website, but not all relevant sites are listed. If you want to learn specific information about Medicare or Medicaid it may be best to visit the official website for those programs rather than the CMS customer service website.

to leave a comment about your customer service experience.

Official Website

Visit http://www.cms.gov/ to learn more about CMS or contact CMS customer service. Much of the information you need for specific government departments and programs will be located on the website dedicated to that program. For instance, information on Medicare is available on Medicare.gov. The CMS site is rather complex – packed with information – but the information is not presented in a user-friendly manner the way other consumer websites do.

Websites associated with CMS that may provide a better user experience include Medicare.gov, Medicaid.gov, InsureKidsNow.gov, HealthCare.gov and HHS.gov/open.

Customer Service Email

There is no email address or contact form for CMS customer service. This is likely because every program the government department works with also has a dedicated website. If the consumer needs customer service that service is provided by the main program, not CMS. However, you can choose to submit a request to CMS customer service for a new question to be answered. The submission form begins at https://questions.cms.gov/newrequest.php. You’ll need to choose a topic, add your email address (or not if anonymity is important) and then enter your request.

Our Experience

The CMS customer service system is automated with a message you cannot bypass by pressing 0. The most popular call options are:

  • 1 – Medicare or Medicaid questions, including drug coverage.
  • 2 – Change coverage.
  • 3 – State medicaid phone number.
  • 4 – Enter a phone extension.
  • 5 – Listen to the directory of extensions.

The first three options will simply transfer you to the department that handles Medicare or Medicaid.
